Hi i'm sort of new at GW and i am wondering if those items you pick up which are salvageable items but unique since they are purple or green. If you keep those in your inventory will they actually give the abilities it says on them such as +15 energy or -3 damage etc... Or is there anything else you need to do with them in order to gain those abilities? Thanks for any help.

Purple is not unique. Purple is magical, generally better than blue but not as good as gold. And any item is salvageable, I believe, except for quest items and a couple other things (starter weapons, IIRC, and books and the like), though I wouldn't go around salvaging greens if I were you. Is that what you were asking?

For the second question, you have to equip the item to get those bonuses. So if they're just sitting in your inventory, they won't do you any good.

Also, I believe with caster weapons, the +Energy listed above the damage is only available if you meet the attribute requirement... but any other bonuses listed below the damage always apply if the weapon is equipped. At least, I think that's how it works. *goes to check*

Like salvage items? The "armor" that drops from monsters? That, you salvage for runes and insignia to put on your own armor. Or, if there are no listed bonuses other than an armor level, salvage for crafting materials.

You can also salvage collector items (the things that have no listed info besides the value, such as Tengu Crests *which, btw, are good for salvaging as feathers are worth plenty of cash*) but that's just for crafting materials.

Oh, and scratch what I said about the energy on staves. I just checked with my mez, and she got the energy from the staff even when she didn't meet the requirement. It is true of focus items, though; you won't get energy from those unless you meet the req.

it has nothing to do with where it's listed relative to the damage. as with all bonuses, any requirements for +energy will be listed in parentheses after the bonus.

Yeah, I corrected myself. Only focus items have an att. req. for +Energy anyway.

Btw, you can't salvage greens. You can't dye them either. What you see is what you get. You can't do anything at all to modify them.

@OP, I'll clear up the colors:

White: Common, non magical.
Blue: Common, magical.
Purple: Uncommon, magical.
Gold: Rare, magical.
Green: Unique (automatically has maxed mods, but unmodifiable), magical.

Green's aren't always max. Plenty of crappy non max greens drop on starter island in nf. Example:Crappy green shield from the paragon boss outside of sunspear great hall.

@Marty: Ah, okay. I wasn't sure if you could, and I wasn't about to try. See, this is why there are people besides me answering here

@Songbringer: Well, their stats probably are max - for a starter weapon. I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't find any ordinary weapons on Istan or Shing Jea with a higher damage range (for that type of weapon, of course) than a SJ or Istani green.

After u salvage the rune/insignia or mod u can put them onto ur own armor or weapon.[must us expert/superior salvage kit to extract a mod]

Most runes and insignias are only for specific professions
ex. Stonefist is warrior only, while radiant is usable on all armors

Mods from weapons can only be applied to specific weapons
ex. sword hilt can only be put on swords
